Cloud migration

Move a workload to another cloud, with readiness and cutover evidence

The Varcio migration module moves a workload to another cloud with source and target readiness checks, migration waves and cutover evidence, on a control plane that executes and tracks the move. Price the target first, like for like, on live provider pricing.

The flow

From model to cutover in one control plane

Each step leaves a record, so a migration can be reviewed while it happens and explained afterwards.

  1. 01

    Model it from reality

In Cloud Playground, seed a scenario from your current estate and price the architecture on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle like for like, with the pricing source shown for every figure.

  2. 02

    Assess what exists

Discovery inspects the source and target accounts, and Cloud Assessment scores the estate, so the plan accounts for the current state.

  3. 03

    Check source and target readiness

Cloud Access measures what your connected clouds are actually allowed to do, and the migration module checks readiness on both sides before anything moves.

  4. 04

    Plan the waves

Move a workload to another cloud in planned waves, not in one risky step.

  5. 05

    Execute and track

The migration control plane executes the move as a tracked run with a per-run event stream.

  6. 06

    Record the cutover

Cutover evidence is recorded and a migration report captures what was done, so the move can be reviewed afterwards.

Cloud Playground prices one architecture on every cloud, like for like, from each provider’s live pricing, and carries the pricing provenance through the simulation so any figure can be traced to its source. List price and effective price can differ substantially, which is why provenance matters in a procurement or architecture decision.

Scenarios can be seeded from the workspace’s actual estate, so a migration is modelled from what exists rather than from a blank page, and an evaluation report can be exported for the decision record.

Cloud Playground

  • Service catalogue across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle
  • Scenarios you can create, edit, duplicate, export and seed from your real estate
  • Live provider pricing with provenance for every figure
  • Architecture recommendations and a workspace readiness check
  • An exportable evaluation report
After the move

Prove the saving and keep it

A migration is only finished when the new estate is governed.

  1. CutoverEvidence recorded
  2. Validate costPlan vs real
  3. GovernBudgets, tags, alerts
  4. MonitorUptime and incidents

Validate cost

Compare the new estate’s real cost with the plan in Overview and Cost Center.

Govern from day one

Apply budgets, tag policies and anomaly alerts to the new accounts before waste accumulates.

Monitor what you moved

Services deployed through Varcio register in Service Monitoring, so uptime and incidents are covered from the first day.

Moving tools too

Moving off another cost tool?

Varcio can import your CloudHealth setup and run beside it while you compare.

If you are consolidating your cost tooling as part of a move, see how Varcio imports CloudHealth perspectives, organisation units, roles and policies and runs alongside it so you can compare the numbers before you switch.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What does the migration module do?

It moves a workload to another cloud with source and target readiness checks, migration waves and cutover evidence, running on a migration control plane that executes and tracks the move and produces a migration report.

Can I estimate the cost of a migration before starting?

Yes. Cloud Playground prices an architecture on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle like for like from live provider pricing, can be seeded from your current estate, and shows the pricing source behind every figure.

Does it need write access to my clouds?

Modelling, assessment and readiness checks work on read-only connections. Executing a move needs an execution role, which is verified separately.

Do you also provide migration engineers?

Yes. Varcio Cloud Services offers cloud consulting and migration across AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, including assessment, landing zones and funding guidance.

Which plans include migration?

Deploy & Migration, including migration, is available on Pro, Business and Enterprise. Cloud Playground is also available from Pro.
